Gray iron

Part of steel waste is also the so-called gray iron, which is used especially in the manufacturing of larger machines or assemblies where larger cast components are required.

Gray iron is one of the most frequently used construction materials because it is cheap, and it has useful technological and mechanical properties. Its characteristics depend on its micro structure, which depends on the chemical composition, smelting method, and solidification conditions. It is a casting with lamellar graphite, as well as an alloy of iron and carbon.
